What do Apprenticeships offer you as an Employer?

  • Motivated employees trained in skills relevant to your business
  • Government funded training for new and existing employees

Recruitment

  • Assistance with recruiting through GBCT to meet your requirements and to enhance your own recruitment process.
  • We carry a list of applicants to whom we can pass details of your requirements and have already assessed as suitable for training.

Training

GBCT will assist employers in managing their apprenticeship training and administration placing your apprentice in the appropriate College for a day release course with site assessments carried our by GBCT. GBCT will visit you regularly to ensure that your apprentice is on target to complete the relevant work in conjunction with the College course and the apprentice’s learning plan. This is carried out every 12 weeks and is a three-way process to ensure you, as the employer, are kept informed. We will also regularly update you on College attendance and report any absences or problems that your apprentice has at College.

Employer Responsibilities

Apprentices are employed full-time and are paid as a minimum the national minimum wage, subject to ability, experience and age. Part-time and self-employed employees can also be considered for apprenticeships as long as the employer is able to mentor, support and supervise the young person and supply the relevant work criteria.

Your company will be expected to have the relevant Health and Safety procedures and Employer’s Liability Insurance in place. GBCT will carry out assessment and provide guidance should any actions be required in this respect.

Apprentices over the age of 19 years

At the present time (Spring 2011), GBCT does not make an employer charge for apprentices aged 19-24 years. In some cases we may also be able to offer Adult Apprenticeships.

If you have an employee requiring apprenticeship training, what happens next?

If you have just recruited or have an existing employee wanting to do an apprenticeship, whether it’s a young person or adult, please contact GBCT.

We will arrange a meeting at a convenient time with you and your employee to discuss the occupational standards of the course and what this will entail. We will carry out a Basic Skills Assessment with your employee to ensure there are no additional learning needs. Once this has taken place we will carry out the Health & Safety check and complete the sign up process to draw down the relevant funding.
